Series and prototype production at the limits of what is possible, more precise and more productive than comparable 5-axis milling machines
The Micro HD+ promises maximum process stability in the versatility of combined complete machining, freedom from wear and automated series production of high-precision components and is the most accurate, dynamic and productive milling machine in the industrial 5-axis segment. The Micro HD+ replaces the Micro HD's roller bearing mounted turning and swivelling axis with an innovative hydrostatic turning and swivelling unit. These hydrostatic micro-gap bearings enable the construction of highly rigid rotary axes with running properties that cannot be achieved with conventional roller bearings. Combined with the wear-free bearing principle, they form the basis for a highly precise and robust turning and swivelling unit. The plus in the name stands for the increase in axial and radial run-out accuracy, dynamics, rigidity and thermal stability, thus enabling the applications of tomorrow.
The advantages of the turning and swivelling axis with micro-gap hydrostatic technology:
Improved concentricity
The high-precision bearing components, which are manufactured in-house with tolerances in the sub-µm range on a core machine, offer the best conditions for outstanding axial and radial run-out accuracy. The hydrostatic bearing creates an additional averaging effect of the bearing components, which neutralises any remaining form deviations and shifts the running accuracy into the nanometre range.
Higher dynamics
By installing more powerful motors with higher nominal and peak torques as well as a topology-optimised structure, the 4th/5th axis of the Kern Micro HD+ achieves significantly higher dynamics than comparable turning and swivel units. In combination with the Kern temperature management system, it is therefore possible to manufacture dynamically and at high speeds with excellent machining accuracy over a longer period of time.
Higher rigidity
A key advantage of the hydrostatic turning and swivelling axis with micro-gap is its rigidity. Combined with topology optimisation of the housing and reinforcement of the swivel housing, we guarantee maximum stability. The use of hydrostatic bearings also contributes significantly to rigidity. This system is designed to ensure maximum precision even under high loads.
Higher thermal stability
Another advantage is the increased thermal stability. While only the bearing plate and stator are usually cooled in variants with rolling bearings, the HD+ also actively cools the bearing and housing in the swivel axis and the bearing shaft, bearing and stator in the rotary axis. The improved temperature management significantly increases the performance of the machine, particularly in changing machining situations and demanding conditions.
